Ellie Goulding Lights – WebGL loveliness

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

I’ve done a few projects with Carlos Ulloa and am under no illusion that he is in fact, a genius. His latest collaboration has produced this spectacular WebGL and HTML5 experience for Ellie Goulding’s latest release, Lights.

Definitely check it out or click the image below.

[video] The faces behind SC5 Photoshop

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Ever wondered who all those people are in that Photoshop startup page? I’m weird, so yes, I did. Luckily, Adobe’s Photoshop Youtube channel has this gem. It’s a ‘candid glimpse inside product development’, but despite that dry description, it’s actually quite interesting, if you’re semi-techy. And if I’m honest, I discovered a few Photoshop features I wasn’t aware of too.

I’d love to see a proper “who do you think you are” style mini-doco on these guys outside of the product focus. In a world of vacuous celebrity / reality shows, it would be a nice change to celebrate and discover more about people who actually have an impact on our lives every day.

Guided Tower climb… funny comment.

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Anyone with a YouTube page or blog will know that sometimes, you get real idiots posting comments. There’s just something about the lack of personal connection that means people don’t consider respect, tact, punctuation or intelligence to be important. However, sometimes you get comments that make you smile. See the above Geocache comment posted against a Youtube video of an engineer climbing the Guided Tower at 1,768 feet high.

My first iPhone app…

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Yep… I make my first iPhone app and it really is that simple to compile. No reason for the Chuck Norris image really, I had to use something. I don’t actually have an iPhone yet so I even find the emulator fun to play with at the moment.

The Xcode development platform absolutely rocks but if I’m honest, I only get half of it. It really is a half and half thing. The half I get is the interface constructor, the UI libraries and so on. The half I don’t get is the slightl weird Visual C syntax of the code. If you know C or maybe even AS2 or 3, some of it will be familiar but the rest is propper strange. Most of the answers to “why?” are “because you have to”. Still, I fully realise its my lack of cleverness rather than Apple’s dev platform. They seem to have done pretty well with it so far.

Anyway, I’m off to get some more skill, so watch this space.

Parent? Got gamer Kids?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

This site was has just popped up on my radar…

As the header says, it’s aiming to be “The parents guide to video games”. Ok, if it was me I’d have capitalised the ‘THE” but there you go.

Anyway, some great articles on there. Lots of ‘Get the facts’ bluffers guides to popular technologies or platforms as well as links to reports on kids gaming and trends. There are several console categories, a blog and a bunch of interesting articles. Strange they don’t have a ‘web games’ section though given that likes of Miniclip are hugely influential in this space.

Here are some example articles worth a quick scan…

Needless to say, I’ve signed up to the newsletter, so I expect my spam folder to be a little heavier this month before I figure out where it went.
