11 Easy Garden Makeover Ideas

Does your garden feel a bit forgotten about, but you don’t have the time, energy or even budget to plan a grand transformation?

A garden that hasn’t been updated for some time or simply doesn’t fit your needs anymore can limit your enjoyment of the space. For those looking to sell or rent their property, neglected gardens can also be off-putting to potential buyers or renters.

Luckily, there are plenty of creative solutions to spruce up your garden quickly, without breaking the bank or having to use too much elbow grease! Here are 11 easy garden makeover ideas to tell you more.

Install A Composite Deck

Beautiful Ash Composite Decking Installed

If you’re looking for a simple, fuss-free way of updating any garden space, then we’ll waste no time in telling you about our composite decking!

Our composite decking is backed with a 10-year guarantee, meaning you can enjoy your deck for years to come without any heavy upkeep or maintenance. Wall Planters

Don’t have the time or knowledge to grow plants? Or perhaps you’re short on space, therefore don’t have the room for raised beds? Wall planters offer a simple solution that can be bought ready made, or constructed and installed within minutes.

You can either use existing plants you have that thrive well outdoors to fill the planters or head down to your local garden centre and pick up some small potted plants.

Fix the frame to a sturdy wall, add in your plants, and you have a beautiful wall feature with none of the fuss versus lugging bags of compost around!

Paint Your Fence

It might sound a bit basic, but you’d be amazed what a freshly painted fence can do to revive a tired looking garden, especially if you opt for an ultra clean paint colour such as white or a light grey.

When it comes to painting the fence, a little prep work will be involved, although the paint itself can be applied with a brush, roller or even spray gun. Alternatively, you can also hire someone to paint your fence for between £75 and £150 on average.

For any fences located in front gardens, a fresh lick of paint can also ramp up your home’s kerb appeal. We highly recommend giving your fence a once over before any visits to your home before a valuation or when looking to sell your property especially.

Clean & Refresh Any Surfaces

For the likes of pavers or gravel – these can harbour dirt and grime that really drag the look of your property down. But, with a quick jet wash or a replacement of any old stones with new ones, your driveway or back garden can look brand new.

Any other measures you take to improve the look of your garden won’t be as nearly as effective if you don’t give any outdoor surfaces an occasional clean. So be sure to schedule a clean at least once a year.

On that note, any composite deck can also be jet washed, so long as a low power setting is used (also known as a softwash). Although, we do recommend giving composite decking a clean with soap, water and a soft bristle brush.

If in doubt, give us a call so we can advise you about the best cleaning methods depending on the stains you are dealing with.

Add Composite Cladding To Exterior Walls

Composite Cladding on Garden Room

Have any walls that lead out onto your garden? Perhaps a brick outbuilding or outdoor home office? An easy and stylish way to give these areas a makeover is to add composite cladding, which you can find right here at Dino Decking.

Available in three different shades, our composite cladding is Class B fire rated and is also suitable for commercial environments such as hotels or office buildings. It’s also an easy way of jazzing up any outdoor dining areas such as restaurants or cafes.

Composite cladding is also incredibly low maintenance, meaning you can improve the look of your outdoor space without having to constantly paint or tend to it.

Artificial Lawn

We’re huge fans of artificial lawns here at Dino Decking, as they are the perfect accompaniment to our composite decking, especially for those in search of a low maintenance, fuss-free garden.

After all, when you think of what makes for an ‘easy’ garden, endless mowing isn’t it! Plus, for anyone with pets, you’ll know all too well the damage that can be done to a grass lawn which can be difficult to repair.

But when you install an artificial lawn, your garden will look green and inviting all year round. With plenty of styles to choose from and no mowing or watering involved – you’ll be glad you made the switch!

Balcony Garden

Decking on a Balcony Garden

Gardens come in all shapes and sizes, and if you have a garden that’s located on a balcony, there’s no reason why you can’t also give your outdoor space a makeover.

As well as adding potted plants and seating, it’s also possible to update the floor surface with our composite decking.

We’ve included a customer image of a wraparound deck we installed, and you’ll be pleased to know that whether you install a composite deck in a traditional garden or a balcony garden, the same wide range of benefits applies!

Let There Be Light

Garden lighting can really bring your outdoor space to life at night. Plus with so many solar options available these days, there’s no mains connection to worry about either. Simply find a lighting style you like and ensure the light is positioned in an area where it will benefit from a lot of sunlight.

For a more romantic look, fairy lights or string lights are also a great option too. The addition of such soft lighting can also help extend the amount of time you spend outdoors, especially during those long summer evenings as the sun begins to set.

Firepits

Composite Decking with Firepit

Looking to reclaim your garden as an adult-only space now the kids have grown up? Fire pits add a rustic charm to your outdoor areas. They are cheap to buy, easy to install and don’t require much maintenance.

Whether you toast marshmallows by the fire in autumn or enjoy a refreshing beverage in front of them, fire pits make an instant style statement without any complicated or expensive installations to worry about.

A great point to note with fire pits is that you need to choose a style that will be compatible with your outdoor surfaces to avoid burning or marking the floor. Look out for fire pits that have protective legs on them so that the heat doesn’t come into direct contact with the floor. Or, try placing your fireplace on the grass instead.

Add Some Screening

Composite Garden Screens installed internally

Garden screens take seconds to install and create an instant visual impact. Whether you’re trying to revive excess wall space or want to gain privacy from your neighbours, screens are the way to go.

There are plenty of alternate ways screens can be used, too, including within fencing or to create shade for any outdoor seating. When shades are used for privacy, they can feel less invasive than tall hedging, and considering there’s no trimming to contend with – screens are about as ‘easy’ as it gets for all things garden makeovers!

Refresh Your Plants

Of course, no garden could be complete without a beautiful array of plants. If your existing plants are looking a little lacklustre, then it may be time to replace them. But instead of growing them from scratch, we recommend buying plants that are in bloom from your local garden centre instead.

Granted, purchasing plants can be costly depending on the amount not to mention the varieties you opt for. But, they’ll create an instant improvement, and if you opt for low maintenance varieties, they’ll require very little input from this point onwards.

Another option is to switch to artificial plants or shrubbery, which will be even more low maintenance. As for the easy aspect – you don’t even need to go near compost or a watering can when the plants aren’t real!
